Religion/Outreach/Portfolio Reflections

Lord of light and wisdom grant us bright intellect, sound judgment and retentive memory. Help us to study patiently, orderly and diligently to develop our gifts and make good use of them according to Your will, as we commit ourselves to truth and courage, for God and Country.
St. Edward, St. Dominic, Mother Pia, pray for us.
Outreach and Portfolio Reflections are an important part of St. Edward School. Outreach events are to be done three times a school year, aligned with each trimester. Hard copies will be handed out to the students but sometimes these can be lost. Please find the blank documents here.

Outreach is an essential part of our Mission, "We empower students to achieve academic excellence, deepen their faith, and develop a commitment to service." The commitment to service builds the character needed to embrace the Holy Spirit. Outreach proposals should be well-thought out and done with planning and purpose, hence the four hour requirement. A quick trip to the Goodwill, however well intentioned, is not a four hour event. Parents are not allowed to sign off on completed Outreach projects.
Portfolio Reflections are given to parents with their report cards. The Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose blessed the school by originally staffing it. The Dominicans charism of Preaching, Prayer, Community, and Study were introduced to the school. This tradition still exists today as part of the Portfolio Reflection content. Students present work that inspires or is inspired by the charisms. Parent and student will have a dialogue about the service and its outcome.

Portfolios are valuable measures of growth and learning that students take pride in producing.  Please take the time to look through your student’s portfolio, where you will find an assignment that pertains to the Student Learning Expectations (Prayer, Study, Community, Preach).  Your student carefully took class time to select an assignment and wrote a short reflection. In addition to their reflection, they indicated what their goals for the next Trimester would be.

Listen to why your student chose this assignment to put into their portfolio.  After you have looked through your student’s portfolio please complete the parent reflection.
